Do we need another blog?

What is this blog about?

I actually have no idea. I don't make a claim that this information is correct, but I hope it is and I'll try to make sure it is. Obviously, if you want to know for sure, contact a priest or read the Catechism. Some of it consists of opinions I have, some of it might might be interesting things that I find.

One thing I hate are blogs that are updated too frequently. That's not going to happen with this blog, I can assure you. There's a proliferation of junk on the Internet, so my hope is to reduce the junk by posting less and more useful and meaningful information.

Eucharist in the hands

I was concerned about receiving the Eucharist in the hands because I thought it was disrespectful to have it in my hands. I assumed that receiving the Eucharist in the hands was bad and that it allowed for easier desecration, but then I stumbled across this.

Basil the Great (c. 330-378)
... And even in the Church, when the priest gives the portion, the recipient takes it with complete power over it, and so lifts it to his lips with his own hand.
St. Basil the Great was a Doctor and Father of the early Church. Here he specifically tells us how the Eucharist was given to people. In the hand. Perhaps not receiving in the hand is actually better, but knowing that in the year 3** they received it in the hand, I'm not going to stress myself out about it. Receiving directly in the mouth also has it's problems, for example it's easier for it to fall or be dropped. Is it worth it to risk taking it in the mouth? Many do it successfully, but every time I do, I am more scared or unsure of whether or not it's going to be accidentally dropped.

I think we have to decide for ourselves and our situation what is better and what we're more comfortable with.
